GIBSONTON, Fla. — Firefighters battled a significant residential fire in southern Hillsborough County Friday evening, October 23, after flames spread through the roof of a two-story home.
According to information attributed to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, emergency dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting a house fire along Spivey Road at approximately 7:41 p.m.
Responding firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions, with flames already extending through the roof when the first crews arrived.
Firefighters Forced to Change Their Approach
Crews initially entered the residence in an effort to bring the flames under control from inside the structure.
However, worsening conditions, including intense heat and heavy fire, forced firefighters to temporarily withdraw and continue battling the blaze from outside.
Once conditions improved, crews were able to reenter the residence and resume interior firefighting operations.
The fire was brought under control in just over an hour.
